E3A Foundation Training 

 

IN1:  Introduction to Experiential Facilitation

Based on the Book, Open to Outcome

Teleclass - 1.5 hours

Course Description

A primer on experiential education and the facilitation process that provides context and framework for action learning.  The concepts presented are primarily based on the book, Open to Outcome (O2O - reading is a course prerequisite).  This course will provide a basic understanding of experiential facilitation for Equine Experiential Education (E3) programming.  This is the initial introduction into experiential facilitation and the training courses that follow reinforce and build upon this basic knowledge of facilitation.

Prerequisites

Read the book Open to Outcome - A Practical Guide For Facilitating & Teaching Experiential Reflection by Micah Jacobson and Mari Ruddy.

Training Objectives

  • Establish foundation knowledge in the areas of experiential education, learning theory, learning styles, and facilitation.
  • Participants will gain core competencies in the following areas:
    • The experiential education learning process
    • How to create a space for learning
    • Develop an understanding of the difference between teaching/training and facilitation
    • Learn about the coaching style of facilitation
    • Understand the reflection approaches of “The 5 Question model” and “yes/and, no/but, yes/but"
  • Experience a structured facilitation training program.

 

IN2:  Horse and Herd Behavior and the E3 Work

Arena - 1 day

Course Description

Explore why horses, as co-facilitators of learning, provide an experiential learning experience with value and benefits unlike any other learning or growth experience.  The field of Equine Experiential Education (E3) has progressed beyond horsemanship and into the realm of human development through facilitated experiences with horses.  Learn about the key aspects of doing this work with horses that is in a conscious and responsible manner while embracing the wisdom of our horse partners.

Prerequisites

  • Read the book, Open to Outcome
  • IN1 – Introduction to Experiential Facilitation based on the Book, Open to Outcome

Training Objectives

  • Understand the unique power that horses bring to an experiential education experience and learn how to fully realize the horses’ potential and develop the horse-human partnership in guiding the Equine Experiential Education (E3) work.
  • Develop insight and awareness of our equine partners in order to integrate their unique gifts into this work.  Including, developing skills in reading horse behavior and integrating this into facilitating learning experiences.
  • Learn how to create an open environment and a space for learning where participants can connect with horses in order to gain the horse’s unbiased feedback.
  • Learn how to address both participant and horse safety for all Equine Experiential Education (E3) learning programs – youth education, corporate training, coachng, and personal development.
  • Experience the E3A facilitation model into Equine Experiential Education (E3) programs.
  • Experience a structured facilitation training program with horses.

 

IN3:  Facilitation and Coaching for the E3 Work

Arena - 2 days

Course Description

This course will provide a basic understanding of the applied equine experiential facilitation and coaching techniques required as a foundation for the Equine Experiential Education Corporate, Education and Coaching work.

  • IN1 – Introduction to Experiential Facilitation based on the Book, Open to Outcome
  • IN2 – Horse and Herd Behavior and the E3 Work

Training Objectives

  • Establish foundation knowledge in the areas of experiential facilitation, including:
    • Understand the impact of different learning styles in the learning process
    • Learn the difference between a facilitator, trainer, educator, and coach
    • Understand the role of the facilitator
    • Learn about different methods and styles of facilitation
    • See The 5 Question model of facilitation applied
    • Recognize the context and effective questioning techniques for the contexts of training, education, and coaching
    • Understand how to sequence questions and use powerful questions
    • Understand the facilitation management of an Equine Experiential Education (E3) program
    • Understand how to handle negative participant feedback
    • Understand that powerful learning experiences that have lasting impact require a change in beliefs, thoughts, and/or habits.
  • Understand the different approaches of facilitation for corporate training, youth education, and coaching.
  • Experience a structured facilitation training program with horses.

E3A Corporate Training 

 

ARCORP1:  Facilitating E3 Corporate Training

Arena - 3 days

Course Description

This course will provide a basic understanding of how to design and conduct an Equine Experiential Education (E3) Corporate Training program; including hands-on experience facilitating E3 activities.

Prerequisites

  • IN1 – Introduction to Experiential Facilitation based on the Book, Open to Outcome
  • IN2 – Horse and Herd Behavior and the E3 Work
  • IN3 – Facilitation and Coaching and the E3 Work
  • Read one of the following books and take the associated StrengthsFinder Assessment (instructions and Internet link are provided within the book):

Training Objectives

  • Put your facilitation skills into practice by facilitating Equine Experiential Education (E3) activities.
  • Experience the StrengthsFinder assessment tool and learn about the value and how to integrate assessment tools into an Equine Experiential Education (E3) program.
  • Develop skills to recognize and understand business team maturity, evaluate where a team is in the team change process, and to facilitate with these skills.
    • Learn to use these concepts during workshop design and facilitation
    • Learn to gauge where a group is in the team maturity model
    • Learn to select the training goals, objectives, and horse activities based on team maturity
    • Learn to evaluate the key characteristics of high performing teams and better understand the common challenges that teams face in their day-to-day team environment
  • Learn the life cycle process and successful techniques to design and conduct Equine Experiential Education (E3) Corporate Training programs that deliver lasting impact and organizational change with clients.
    • Write a proposal
    • Integrate individual and team culture assessment tools
    • Conduct a client training needs assessment
    • Select activities (and modify as needed) that best align to the assessment goals
    • Design the program agenda and plan logistics
    • Conduct the program and capture the action plan
    • Develop and administer program evaluation materials
    • Write the Workshop Summary Report
    • Do post-program assessment with the client
  • Understand that powerful learning experiences which have lasting impact require a change in beliefs, thoughts, and/or habits.

ARCORP2:  E3 Corporate Training Certification

Teleconference Certification Workshop Planning - 8+ hours

Arena - 3 to 4 days

Course Description

This course is to certify individuals in Equine Experiential Education (E3) Corporate Training through facilitating a business team.

Prerequisites

  • Read the book, Open to Outcome
  • IN1 – Introduction to Experiential Facilitation based on the Book, Open to Outcome
  • IN2 – Horse and Herd Behavior and the E3 Work
  • IN3 – Facilitation and Coaching and the E3 Work
  • Read one of the following books and take the associated StrengthsFinder Assessment (instructions and Internet link are provided within the book):

  • ARCORP1 – Facilitating E3 Corporate Training

Training Objectives

  • Put skills into practice and learn new skills from trainers and peers about how to conduct an Equine Experiential Education (E3) corporate training workshop by facilitating a program with an actual business team.
  • Become certified by E3A in E3 corporate training:
    • Demonstrate competencies by designing and conducting an E3 corporate training workshop with an actual business team:
      • The group being certified (Certification Team) will be individually evaluated in terms of their contributions to the Certification Team as well as their individual skills in facilitating a team building and leadership development workshop with a business team.  Specifically, during the client workshop each individual will facilitate at least two activities with another facilitator. 
      • The Certification Team will complete all workshop process deliverables and submit them in electronic format to the E3A trainers.  E3A will provide a Workshop Toolkit with deliverable templates for all workshop process deliverables that should be used as a starting point for designing and conducting the workshop.
      • The Certification Team will meet via teleconference to design and develop the client workshop.  The Trainers will observe to provide feedback, guidance, ensure progress, and evaluate participants.
      • All phases and deliverables of the workshop process (documented and submitted to E3A) along with the facilitation will be evaluated by the trainers and peers of the Certification Team to determine if participants are proficient in key competencies. 
    • In addition to conducting an E3 Corporate Training experience, each individual must also submit electronically the following for evaluation:
      • Complete and submit Self Tests for IN1, IN2, IN3, and ARCORP1 (form will be provided).
      • Design and document a new E3 activity that can be used with a business team (form will be provided).

 

ARCORP3:  Assessing Team Culture based on the Book, The Five Dysfunctions of a Team – A Leadership Fable

Teleclass - 1.5 hours

Course Description

Examine the traits of functional and the main causes of dysfunctional teams in a corporate environment.  Explore the team assessment to assess a team’s strengths in five functional areas.

Prerequisites

Read the book The Five Dysfunctions of a Team - A Leadership Fable by Patrick Lencioni.

Training Objectives

·         Understand the dysfunctions and their causes within corporate teams.

·         Learn how to apply the team assessment within an Equine Experiential Corporate Training program.

 

ARCORP4:  Assessing Strenghts based on the Book, Strengths Based Leadership

Teleclass - 1.5 hours

Course Description

Examine the powerful approach to incorporating a strengths focused appraoch to leadership in a corporate environment.  Explore the StrengthsFinder assessment tool and learn how to analyze team composition.

Prerequisites

Read the book Strengths Based Leadership by Tom Rath and Barry Conchie

Take the StrengthsFinder assessment (directions and access provided with the book)

Training Objectives

·         Understand how a strengths based approach can power the productivity of a team.

·         Become familiar with the StrengthsFinder assessment tool.

·         Learn how to apply the StrengthsFinder assessment within an Equine Experiential Corporate Training program.
